Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and is located off the coast of Spain. This large island is broken into 6 distinctively different regions. Each of these regions offers something great to see and provides a great location for holidays to Mallorca.

The north western most region of Mallorca is the Serra de Tramuntana. This area is filled with a mountainous range that provides some great scenic views. This range runs from Andratx to the Cap Formentor. A few of the popular cities for holidays in this region include Soller which is the most popular northern Mallorca location, Port de Pollenca which is a grand beach resort, and Andratx which is popular holiday destination among the truly wealthy.

A small southern section of the island of Mallorca that offers some great holiday destinations is the Palma de Mallorca region. This area includes the capital city of Palma. Palma is the home of over half of the citizens of the entire island. There are truly magnificent historic buildings to visit such as the popular tourist attraction of the Cathedral of Mallorca. This famous cathedral is within close proximity to sea and houses a museum that offers some unique religious paintings.

Pla de Mallorca and Raiguer are two regions in the center of the island of Mallorca. These sections offer some of the central towns of Alcudia and Inca. Alcudia sits on the north end of the island and offers some great holiday destinations including the S'Albufera Natural Park. This park is the largest wetland area located anywhere on the Balearic Islands. This place was once a lagoon and consisted of a chain of sand dunes. This is a popular bird watching location and offers over 270 different species of birds indigenous to the islands.

Located on the northern coast is the village of Pollenca. This village sits at the base of the Serra de Tramutana Mountains and offers a great place to stop during your holiday to Mallorca. This town is much different than the typical touristy areas of the island and offers a look at the way life has been in this area for centuries. Among the sites here are the village's two churches with 365 steps that lead from one to the other and offer a magnificent view. The Stations of the Cross can be followed along this path of steps.

There is some more great hiking in this area including the Cami Vell del Far which translates to "Old track to the lighthouse". This is a long hike which meanders up the mountains and across a picturesque little beach. This area is great for biking and other adventure sports that can be a different way to see the great sites that make up this vast island.

These are a few of the destinations that make holidays to Mallorca a great way to see the largest of the Balearic islands. These destinations will provde a unique combination of stops along your trip. A great way to see this great island is yo pick out one section and focus on its sights and save the rest for future trips.
