When planing your
HOLIDAY TO SPAIN take the time to explore the Lecrin Valley and the small village of Pinos del Valle. This small village is situated deep in the lush valley on the slopes of the surrounding hillsides. This tenth century village offers views across the Beznar Reservoir and two imposing churches. The village of Pinos del Valle is divided into two parts, with one half dedicated to grocery stores, shops and restaurants whereas the other part lends its self to housing. When you are out for an evening meal, you will be in for a party with all the local dishes on offer and washed down with the areas well known beer and wine.
If you have planed your journey around walking, you couldn't have chosen a more attractive setting for this activity. If you have never been to this part of Andalucia before, you might want to consider hiring a local guide for the first few days. If you do want to go it alone, at least procure a guide book outlining all the trails and how they are marked. If you do hire a guide, he will be able to give you a dissertation on the surrounding area including the local history of this ancient place. At certain times of the year, once you are out in the country, you can't help noticing that the hillsides are alive with color so much so it makes you want to get a paint brush and create a master piece.
If you are interested in a party where the locals gather together along with any visitors they can invite to the party, then stay here during festival season. If you have ever considered learning more about their customs and traditions this is an opportune time to do that. You can't help being drawn into all the action as the locals tend to celebrate their fiestas with considerable gusto. All this is exemplified in the amount of food, music, dancing and the fireworks display at the end of it all. The main festival last a week and is celebrated around the middle of August. The other noteworthy festival occurs in May and is also celebrated with considerable exuberance. If you are looking for peace and quiet on your holiday then this time of the year should be avoided as it is just one massive party with plenty of noise.
While exploring the countryside on your
HOLIDAY TO SPAIN, you may run across the ancient village of Salernas where the Donkeys and carts rule the village cobblestone streets. In this remote village, these animals don't look out of place, especially alongside the 16th century church with a bell tower. You will see the donkey and carts on a daily basis as they carry loads to and from the fields as they are the chosen method of transport in the rough terrain. As you reach the village take notice of all the trails available for walking emanating from the village and into the countryside. While you are in Salernas take some time to visit the open air market selling fresh fruit, vegetables and handicrafts on a daily basis. If you are interested in village history, pay a visit to one of the local bars. At the end of the work time this is where the locals gather to have a drink and discuss the days activities. If you ask one of the locals about the village they will be more than happy to give you a brief history of the village they call home.
