HOLIDAY IN BARCELONA is awesome. If you are planning to target European cities as a holiday, the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain should be at the top of your list to visit. Here are many beautiful places to see and explore and have lots of activities to be done to make the trip worthwhile.
During your stay in this beautiful city, you should not miss visiting some of the world-famous works such as Antonio Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Cathedral, one of the largest buildings he has designed which is still in construction even to this day. The most popular park in Barcelona is the Parc Guell, another of Gaudis creations. It was declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. Here you can find the famous kite and unique monuments of unconventional shape and design. Spectacular views of the city can be seen from the terrace. The park is free for the public to visit and is open daily.
A visit to the Picasso Museum in the centre of the city will mystify and amaze you with some of the famous works by Picasso. A must visit also is to the Maritime Museum. An art lover can find a lot of museums in Barcelona. Try taking a walk through the bustling Las Ramblas. You can stop at the second opera house called "El Liceu". This area is a popular place to eat and shop, especially for tourists. If beaches are your thing, Barcelona has more to offer. Barcelona beach is only ten minutes from down town Barcelona. You can also choose the beach in Sitges which is out of town further along the coast.
Visit the Barri Gotic (or Gothic Quarter); this place is full of bars and cafes in the square with a crowded market in the heart. If you visit the square on Sunday, you get the chance to see the dancers perform a traditional dance called the Sardana Catalan.
If you want to, visit some of the leisure parks such as Barcelona Tibidabo or the experience of a movie in three dimensions in IMAX Barcelona. If you have extra time you can take a train for an hours trip to an amusement park called Universal Port Aventura in Tarragona, a city near Barcelona. Take a ride on the roller coaster or enjoy the themes in different countries (China, Mexico, Polynesia, the Mediterranean and the Far West) that are available within the park. Barcelona is also home to the largest aquarium in Europe where you can enjoy the experience of watching marine animals, fish, water flowers and invertebrates.
For a good night out, Barcelona has a lot of restaurants and bars. A pleasant dinner with a glass of cava (a local champagne) will be a romantic evening. Try roaming through the Port Vell, Maremagnum Centre where you will find a variety of shops, restaurants, cafs, pubs and bars. The streets of Ribera, S. Gervasi and Gracia should also be taken into consideration for nightlife.
When on
HOLIDAY IN BARCELONA do not miss a taste of their delicious Catalan cuisine. Try sampling escudella, suquet peix and the wide range of fish dishes and seafood dessert. Try the crema catalana (custard with caramel crust). If you did not visit Eixample for fashion shops and jewellery stores maybe try the Pesseig de Gracia which is also rich in shopping malls. You can also find two stores with designer shops in Diagonal. Glories Catalanes in the Plaza of the flea market is called Mercat de les Encants sale of unique antiques and trinkets.
