Holiday Hosting Does Not Have To Be Such A Chore

By:

For some hosting for a holiday is a very enjoyable thing, while other homemakers dread the prospect of being picked to host an even the next year. If you are someone that had rather go to a party rather than give one, there are some shortcuts you can take that might make it a little easier for you and allow you you enjoy the event as much as everyone else does.

Decorating for a holiday is supposed to be fun, not a chore, but if you do not have a lot of spare time, do not sweat it. Make is simple or incorporate some help. You should get the decorating done and out of the way as early as you can so you can concentrate on the more important aspects of a celebration like the food! Your guests will of course, appreciate your decorative touch, but it is the bad food that they will remember if you fail in the department. If you budget is limited as well as your time, this is another reason to keep decorations to a minimum. Sometimes just a few well placed decorative items can make just as big of an impression as a lot of gaudy stuff. Elegant is always more appealing than overdone and tacky anyway.

When it comes to the food, you will want it to be appropriate for whatever holiday you are hosting. For holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving, everyone expects an elaborate meal with all of the trimmings. It might be impossible for you to do this along so wither hire a caterer if you can afford one, or ask each guest to bring something. You can make some things in advance and even put them in the freezer if you can. Hire someone to come in help you for the day or even get your kids involved if they are old enough. Sit down meals are great when the table is full of food, but this can be awkward to pull off when you have a lot of guests. Try using a buffet instead. A long fold out table with a table cloth will serve well for a buffet if you do not have a traditional one. Let everyone serve themselves and then sit down.

Appoint one or two of your closest relatives or friends to give you a hand during the day if needed. It is rare that a holiday gathering will go off without a hitch. If something goes wrong like burning the dinner rolls, oh well, it is not the end of the world. Break out a loaf of bread and move on. You are having this event in order for everyone to have a good time and that includes you. You do the best that you can and hope for the best, When there is a lot of love in the room, the rest will not be that important anyway!
