Caravans have become a popular choice with families as a means of having an affordable holiday, I don't mean touring caravans which you hitch up and tow behind your car, buying one of these incurs large expense, which not everybody can afford, especially in these hard times, but I mean static caravans.

There are many caravan parks throughout the UK and Europe which rent out static caravans, as holiday accommodation, because statics are usually bigger than your average caravan often 12ft wide by 30 plus ft long they do not compromise you with the level of living accommodation you have, often being able to sleep eight people comfortably.

The quality of the accommodation may also surprise you as static caravans are usually equipped with all the appliances which you would normally find in your home. The kitchen alone comprises of oven, grill, fridge, freezer, sink and worktop space you may well even stumble across the odd caravan with a microwave. The layout of these caravans may differ but usually in the larger vans you will find that accommodation provides a lounge diner, kitchen, toilet and shower in some instances, with perhaps a couple of bedrooms including wardrobes dominating one end of the van, cupboard and storage space in a caravan is surprising as many furnishings have hidden compartments underneath such as the sofas, so there is plenty of room to tuck belongings away.

It's hardly surprising that so many people have taken to living in them all year round, taking advantage of the cheaper price of living. However there are downsides to this as many sites will close for one month of the year due to regulations.

Static Caravans are used for so many purposes such as self build accommodation. When people decide to build their own property, they will often have to sell their existing property in order to pay for the new build, obviously this causes a situation whereby in the interim period where one house id sold and the other in a raw state of the building process you find yourself without living accommodation, many people will rent a property for this period, but some will hire a static which as long as permission acquired by the council can be positioned on site.

However there uses don't stop there, because of the quality of living accommodation they provide and the fact that they are so cheap to run in comparison with many other forms of accommodation, companies are now using them for workers as staff accommodation to make their digs in, for example farm workers and fruit pickers especially in peak farming times such as lambing season and harvest time when all hands have to be on deck. They have been known to be used by stable hands in full time residence, looking after horses is a full time job, starting early each morning, and becomes even more chaotic with the racing and show jumping seasons.

If you are thinking of buying a static caravan you will need to consider a few things, these may include whether or not the site you have chosen is big enough? Some companies can provide a site surveying service which will ensure your caravan will sit nicely in position they will also check that access to the site is large enough for the caravan to be transported. As you can imagine moving static caravans can be a logistical nightmare and access to a site needs to wide enough to accommodate a large transporter lorry with caravan strapped on the back, the issue with this is not simply just width but there will also be concerns about height to and other obstacles such as trees, pylons, barriers etc. Most companies are extremely experienced and nowadays provide transportation services all over the UK, even into Europe.

So as you see, static caravans are extremely versatile when it comes to living accommodation, providing all of the home comforts you need for a holiday whilst being easily adapted to provide full residence or self build accommodation.
