Hiring A Wedding Photographer

By:

USING YOUR UNCLE BOB FOR YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY! It is very easy to afford digital cameras these days, this makes everyone a "professional photographer" these days. Are they going to have the experience and skill to get the images you want?

PHOTOGRAPHERS OVERCOMPENSATING EQUIPMENT FOR SKILL. Wedding photographers that spend too much time talking about their equipment and not their process may not be what you are looking for. A camera is just a tool and the artist must have the knowledge, creativity and skill to know how to use it.

SEEING ONLY THEIR BEST PORTFOLIO IMAGES. It can be very misleading regarding a photographer's talent than taking a look at a sample wedding album that is a compilation of their best shots at 50 different weddings. An album such as this may be useful in understanding their style and what sort of images they like taken. Ask to be shown an album of whole wedding from start to finish. Virtually somebody with a respectable camera can get great shot per wedding!

TOO MUCH SALES PITCH. Every photographer can tell you great things about themselves and so they ought to. But in your first wedding consultation, look for photographers who have an interest in YOU. A good photographer will need to know the kinds of photos you are interested in and what you are looking for in a wedding photographer. A photographer who asks you lots of questions about your wedding and your preferences will probably listen to you and have a better sense what you are looking for.

NOT ASSESSING THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S PERSONALITY. You really need to make sure you like the photographers personality. You will spend the whole day along with your photographer. If you don't get along with them it could ruin the entire day. Rude and bossy photographers can also cause issues along with your guests.

WATCH OUT ON RELYING ON VENDOR REFERRALS. Plenty of wedding vendors trade referrals with other wedding professionals with no actual knowledge of the other's work. And yes, plenty of times it is an honest referral based on working a few weddings with another. But how much can a wedding venue, for example, know about the quality of a wedding photographer's work? Sometimes this type of referral is based on the fact that the venue has worked with the photographer at numerous events and liked him or her. Did the they ever see the final result? Did they see the full wedding album? Probably not.

CONFUSION OVER PRICING. In case you cannot understand the pricing or packages, keep looking. look for a pricing structure that has some flex. It lets you have a better idea of what your final bill will be. Ala carte pricing can confuse and be misleading. You may assume that something you though was included in their coverage costs additional. Like a wedding album! However, a photographer who only offers strictly structured packages ought to even be avoided. Ultimately, you need to find anyone who will work within your budget and give you exactly what you need. In case you don't see a package that fits your needs, ask the photographer to let you design your own.
