Hip Replacement Recall - What Should You Do If Your Hip Replacement Implant Is Recalled

By:

A Hip Replacement Recall is bad news, especially if you have had hip replacement surgery in the last couple of years. Especially if you are still in pain. Chances are that you have been notified of a hip replacement recall involving your implant.

There has been quite a bit of press recently about recalls of all sorts of things, including cars, children's toys, and drugs. But when a hip replacement implant is recalled, the stakes are a lot higher. And if you are in pain even many months after your surgery, chances are that you may have received such a defective implant.

Why you chose hip replacement surgery in the first place

It's so ironic. When you decided to get hip replacement surgery, you were probably in great pain to begin with. The surgery itself is a major procedure, and it can take a long time to fully recover even under ideal circumstances.

But the rewards of going to the trouble can be great. You would regain... The ability to walk without pain for years to come. The ability to participate in sports activities, at least the more moderate ones. Your ability to enjoy quality time with your loved ones and especially the grandchildren.

Essentially, you were looking forward to resuming the active lifestyle you enjoyed before your hip started to put you out of commission.

The hip implant recall

Unfortunately, things didn't work out quite so well. Your hip started hurting all over again, just when it was supposed to be all fixed.

And now, you've discovered that the artificial hip implants you have been given have been recalled. They were defective.

It's bad enough to have car parts recalled, but hip implants? They're inside your body!

To swap them out means you have to have surgery AGAIN.

And repeat hip replacement surgery is often much harder on the patient and carries more risk. It also usually comes with a recovery period that can be even longer than the first one.

Let's hope the "revision" surgery will resolve the issue, and that your rehabilitation won't be too long. If you're lucky, you won't have suffered extensive damage to your bones and surrounding tissues... yet. In some cases, the bad implant destroyed their bone structure, or caused damage to nerves and ligaments.

How can you get compensated?

If you've received a hip implant that is involved in a hip replacement recall, you deserve to get compensated. Fortunately, the law is on your side, at least in theory. Not that it's an easy road to navigate.
