Hip Hop Isn't Dead

By:

People thought rap music was just a fad. Than with it still stuck around, people started paying a little more attention. This is when people started realizing that their is more to rap music than just a beat and some angry black guy screaming his lungs off. People started paying attention and more so to the lyrics. This is when grandmaster flash, Rakim and all the real old school guys started coming into the scene.

This 'struggle' gave birth to groups like N.W.A and Bodycount who later the media started calling 'gangster rappers'. They tried to stop gangsta rap but as I mentioned in my other articles, music can't be stopped. It spread like wildfire in the American youth and surprisingly in the 'white' suburbs and soon became the thing for all kids in the U.S.A. You didn't have to be black to relate to the oppression going on in the ghettos because the struggle was painted so perfectly with words in most of these songs that everyone could feel it.

No one could put a lid on this genre of music anymore. When rock music first came out, it was labeled the devil's music and soon every kid wanted to hear it and have a great time with it. Same kind of scrutiny and negativity was thrown at Hip hop and rap music. Some of these rappers were actually called criminals and law breakers in the open and the media just didn't care. The more you bashed rap music, the more money the media made.

Now again people started seeing somewhat of a downfall in rap music, so they stared saying stuff like rap music is going to die out and this it but than came two heroes. One from the west coast and one from the east. Tupac and Biggie tore up the entire industry and re-molded the whole genre. It was like a gift from the rap gods and after making the biggest impact ever, they both passed away in a deadly shooting. Regrettably, they didn't see eye to eye but their legacy and talent was out of this world.

Don't listen to what people say about rap music or hip hop being dead, it's just going to morph into something. I don't know if you've noticed it but it is already turning into more electronic than rap or kind of mixed. These are just record companies who do it but their is going to be someone who is going to start a trend. Let's just hope that person is ready because rap has chosen him.
