Hints For Effectively Hanging Artwork

I'm going to give you some guidelines from interior designers for displaying art, but remember that rules are made to be broken - adapt them or make up your own rules if these don't work for you. The most important thing is to ensure that your art is well displayed and appreciated. Do not attempt to match your existing furniture with your artwork.

A basket full of fruit or throw pillows on a sofa can be the same color as one in the painting, and this will unite the room. Usually, professionals advise hanging art at eye level. The midpoint used in galleries and museums is roughly five feet above the floor.

The best lighting to use to show off your artwork is from halogen bulbs since this does not detract from the artworks beauty thanks to it's white light properties. You artwork was not cheap, and you should not use cheap methods for hanging; use appropriate, high quality hooks and wires. Give each piece of artwork two hooks for additional security.

Sometimes art is simply placed on the floor and leaned against a wall, or it can be placed on a shelf or table as an attractive accent.

Larger pieces that are also framed are most successfully displayed in this manner. A white mat is the best for framing your art. Some people chose to use a filet, or scarcely larger colored mat, to show a little bit of color between the art and the white mat.

If you are displaying several pieces of art as a group, you want to arrange them so they give an impression of balance. If the pieces are of various sizes, hang them so the centers of the pictures are in a line, rather than the bottoms or the tops. Making a sketch of your grouping or placing you art on the floor to get a look at it will assist you in striking the proper balance.

You must consider the negative space, or the space between each piece. Repeating the space pattern between the art creates coherency. One and a hlaf inches between your frames is a good rule of thumb when putting photos or prints of the same size together.

Again, check out the grouping by first arranging the pieces on the floor or by making a drawing on paper. If you chose varying frames for similar pieces, you will create a more intriguing effect.

Contemporary art looks best in simple frames. Impressionistic or traditional paintings, however, are usually shown off to better advantage in more elaborate frames.

When using small pieces, you can utilize large mats to make them appear bigger and more sophisticated. Painting your walls off-white or white can let your artwork displays shine.

When you decide to redecorate, pick artwork in the beginning of the process. Then let their colors and styles guide you as you select the other furnishings and accessories of the room.

You could become exhausted searching for just the right art piece. You could also spend a ton of money on it. Experts advise letting your emotions guide your selections.

It can be something that you found when you were traveling, or was given to you by someone you are close to. You don't have to have one kind of art displayed in a single room.

You might choose to have tribal masks hanging over a door, a Russian watercolor on the same wall as a painting from Gualemala, and a handmade book on the coffee table. Most artists look for intriguing pieces while they are traveling.

Mixing and matching frames add interest; there is no rule that each piece must have an identical frame. The main thing is that the artwork is noticed and appreciated; the frame should not take away from it.

Some galleries will allow you to put a deposit down on a piece of art, so that you may try it in your own space and exchange it if it doesn't look right. You could bring up to twenty works home from some galleries.
