Have you ever seen those movies where a family enters into one of those zoos that allows people to drive their own vehicles through? Typically, in the movies at least, someone rolls down a window and a giraffe will stick his head in and give someone a lick, or something along those lines. I had never experienced such a zoo in my life, until I went to Scotland. We originally heard of the Highland Wildlife Park from the staff at our Short break Scotland hotel, as they noticed that we were looking for activities for the entire family. Assured that this would be a chance of a lifetime, we jumped on the opportunity to visit such a unique zoo.
Since we did not have our own vehicle with us, we ended up renting one for the day. We then drove through the beginning of the zoo, sighting camels, deer, yaks, bison, along with many other animals that I have never come face to face with. Following such an adventure, we walked the final part of the zoo, as vehicles were not allowed to enter. To be honest, I enjoyed the walking much more than the driving, as I was a little worried that I might end up scratching the rental vehicle; I am kind of a worry wart like that. Regardless, we had such a great time at the zoo that I highly recommend it to anyone that has children. It is an opportunity to get out there and explore, while burning off some of that excess energy that children tend to have.
Needless to say, we returned to our
Hotel breaks Scotland exhausted and ready for dinner. Luckily our hotel had an amazing chef that was more than willing to accommodate my wife's vegetarian ways; many Scotland hotels, including many of the
Perthshire hotels that I have stayed at over the years, will go out of their way to provide a meal for sensitive diets. Scotland is such an amazing country, with so many opportunities to be had.
