This area is constantly busy and is packed with fashion outlets and entertainment venues and is overflowing with visitors at all times of the day. The streets of Shibuya is where many Japanese and international fashion trends were born. The contemporary fashion scene extends northwards to Harajuku where youth culture reigns and to Sendagaya, Tokyos apparel design district.

Shibuya is also well known for the IT industry where stores selling the latest electronic gizmos are a huge draw. The huge intersection at Shibuya stations Hachiko Exit is an iconic area that exemplifies Tokyo featuring giant neon based advertisements and two storey high video displays and is unlike any other area in the world. It is an area teeming with pedestrians every time the crossing lights turn green making it an in demand photo and film location and the best advertisement for the vibrancy of the area.

Some of the areas that make up Shibuya include Centre Gai, a busy pedestrian zone and the birthplace of many fashion trends. It is lined with shops and gaming centres and is full of young people in the evenings hanging out or going to nightclubs, restaurants or bars. Spain Slope is a narrow 100 metre pedestrian street with steps leading to the Parco department store lined with shops and cafes. Love Hotel Hill is full of tiny spaces which offer couples private rooms for two or three hours. Shibuya 109 is a trendy fashion complex frequented by young people with a wide range of boutiques on ten floors, while Shibuya Mark City is a city within a city with stores and restaurants connecting with JR Shibuya station.

In addition to several more shopping centres and streets, Shibuya also has the Hachiko Statue dedicated to a dog who waited for his master at the station in the 1930s. It is a popular meeting point for those exiting JR station.
