High Fuel Prices Spark Uptake Of Fuel Cards

By:

Petrol is on the up. According to The AA, pump prices could in some stations reach record highs of one pound twenty before long as the Chancellor plans another rise in rates from April 1. On average UK drivers are paying almost fifty pounds more in petrol than a year ago. Sadly there is no immediate prospect of an end to this trend. The government needs to claw back cash to pay for its extravagance towards the banks during the past year and the UK motorist seems to be the perfect target. With that in mind, fuel cards represent a good way for drivers to keep their costs under control.

Fuel cards allow you to open an account on which you pay a certain balance. Many people believe they are more secure than using cash or credit cards at a station, but equally as important is their capacity for reining in spending on petrol and diesel. Expenses for company travel are escalating out of control putting pressure on a company's finances at every level.

Workers love them because they make it altogether simpler to claim expenses on travel. We've all experienced the frustration of finding ourselves out of pocket after a work trip because of a lost VAT receipt. By making sure there are sufficient funds to cover the journey both employer and the employee are covered.

In effect fuel cards simplify the entire process, making it easier for businesses to manage cash flows. This is an ever evolving market with more companies entering this sector by the month. The range of competitors should be viewed as a positive development for any business wanting to use this service. There will be plenty of opportunity to shop around and find the most cost effective solution for your needs. For example, if as a company you rack up a high mileage then you can achieve a discount on fees. Alternatively you may only use transport for a few annual events in which case there are services that will suit your needs better.

Sadly, from the point of view of the motorist there is no sign of an end to the endless rise in fuel duty. Since the end of 2008 duty has risen by over ten percent. For politicians it's an ease was of raising money while claiming to helping cut pollution. With that in mind businesses and indeed individuals may choose to make increasing use of fuel cards.
