Everyone knows babies rule the world, particularly parents, but this is turning into a major cultural statement from people who sometimes cant even talk yet. Forget Victorias Secret, this is Haute Couture For Half Pints. In fairness, there is probably some peer pressure involved. Who wants to be seen in last years nappy, anyway? Definitely not the discriminating baby, and certainly not the baby whos been shopping online with Mum and seen whats available.

Its probably inevitable that dress up baby would go upmarket sooner or later, and some of the designs, admittedly, are very competent, good quality offerings using good fabrics and a surprising lack of clichs.

You have to admire the courage of people designing for the toughest fashion market on Earth, too. There is nothing as discriminating as a baby, and second on the list are the parents. Anything put on a baby has to look beautiful, or else.

For example:

* Baby legwarmers. This area of baby can get frozen solid by a breeze, and sure enough the designers have come up with some cute but functional designs.
* Adjustable baby nappies. Some, notably including the Blueberry Minky, in floral designs, in a One Size concept for babies from 4.5 to 16Kg, are also a departure from the script. These very durable things come in nice floral designs, and a good practical thing in terms of managing the fast growing stages.
* Swaddling blankets. Even swaddling blankets are developing some chic. Some are pretty things with images of animals, all baby size. Others are the more traditional patterns or plain, but its looking like the new generation of doyens in diapers will start changing this market, too.
* Nappy covers The nappy cover is also turning into a small, waddling fashion statement no catwalk will ever even dare to approach. Colors, patterns, and ultra-cool babies rule.

Toddler-proof clothes

If babies are picky enough, toddlers are a few degrees tougher, and they can prove it. At toddler level, the issue of destructibility of clothing is high on the list of priorities. Youll have noticed that even adult work clothes can at least be implied to be indestructible. Thats not the case with toddler clothes.

Much as parents hoping for the best and manufacturers trying their best would like to at least think toddler clothes are indestructible, they cant. Somewhere out there will be a toddler, or more likely thousands of them, wholl try to prove them wrong. Since armor plate isnt really practical, the manufacturers do their best and try to produce clothes which will at least survive the exploratory phase of toddler-hood.

The look is good, the look is definitely the young generation, and the best option is to enjoy it. If baby starts looking at catalogues, just smile and take the hint.
