Hidden Treasure Uncovered On Island In Queensland Australia

If you ever thought that living on an island was beyond your wildest dreams, think again. Down-under in Queensland, Australia, there are several off-shore islands, but islands on-shore are a rare find. I've been fortunate to find just such an Island, and take it from me it is a hidden treasure if you enjoy the utmost in lifestyle living.

Kawana Island on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, is a waterfront canal community, with homes from about $500,000 through to multi million dollar mansions. Kawana Island is basically an "inner island" surrounded by waterways, the National Parks and the Mooloolah River.

Kawana Island is roughly midway between Caloundra and Maroochydore. This is definitely a hidden treasure, because unlike the previous two locations, Kawana is NOT a tourist destination. There's really only the locals who are aware of its existence, and locals like to keep it that way (you're sworn to secrecy). The island is centrally located, and is a real gem when you find it. The streets are absolutely beautiful and lined with trees. There is a true coastal living style to the architecture.

Apart from the quality houses and the wonderful walking trails stretching 10 km along the canal, most local people boast about the wonderful community feeling that abounds. A walk or bike ride along the walkway is a wonderful experience as you get to meet and chat with the locals. The waterfront houses along the canal are spectacular and designed to maximize the views and outdoor living. With the warm Queensland climate most homes have their own pools and large shaded areas for barbecues.

In addition to the wonderful waterfront homes there are some exclusive apartment complex's. These have been built to a high standard with resort facilities which attract both permanent owner-occupiers and long-term tenants. These apartment complex's are for residents only and do not offer weekend or holiday vacation rentals. The good thing about that is, the standard remains high and people get to know each other around the pool area, on the tennis court, or at a barbecue.

Kawana Island is also home to the famous Montego's Restaurant. It is located next to the Thai Islander Cafe in Double Bay (named because of the two side-by-side beaches). Double Bay is the local community hub located next to a tree-lined park and waterfront barbecue kiosk. There is also a 7-day convenience store in Double Bay. These facilities are all located in an idyllic location overlooking the sandy white beaches fronting the canal.

If you are on the island it is so easy to forget that the busy outside world still exists. Yet it is only about 5 minutes to the golden beaches, the nearest mall, and to the Sunshine Coast Motorway.

Kawana Island located in the heart of the beautiful Sunshine Coast is north of Brisbane. It has parklands fronting the canal, beautiful walkways andits own small beaches. It is no wonder it is one of the most prestigious residential areas to be found on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Access to Brisbane City from Kawana Island is via the nearby Sunshine Motorway. The Sunshine Coast has an airport and a growing University. A new $2bn Public Hospital and a private hospital and medical training center is also planned for the area just south of Kawana Island. These big infrastructure projects are likely to have a tremendously positive impact on the local economy. In my opinion, it is certainly worth consideration as a great place to reside and to invest in real estate.
