Hey Dummy - Improve Your Golf Swing

By:

Your golf game can improve immensely with just one thing and one thing only and that is a simple mental adjustment. If you use your mind in this one way it will improve your golf swing.

When you watch many golfers get set up to hit a golf shot the one thing that becomes glaringly clear is their lack of athletic intentions. Golf is a sport where you have to get the rhythm started quickly from a static position.

Try this some time.....When you get ready to hit your shot, imagine that as you're 3 or 4 feet behind the ball and walking up to it that you are a middle linebacker in a football game and you're getting your body ready for the snap of the ball. When you have this visual, you will get in an athletic frame of mind.

Once you're in this athletic frame of mind you only have to stand up ever so slighty more than what a middle linebacker would. Another good visual is a tennis player returning serve. The point is that you need to think athletically. The mistake that too many golfers make is that there is no sense of liveliness in their legs.

Legs are underrated in every sport and every great athlete is usually not commented on enough about his legs as being the foundation of his or her success. I'm thinking Roger Federer, Steffi Graf, and Jack Nicklaus (strong legs) and other successful athletes who aren't even known for it but should be.

This lack of liveliness in a golfers legs will show up when you see a golfer swing and it looks like his whole body, swing, shoulders, and everything is headed straight for the ground and it just seems to stop there. (also having a hit impulse, remember to swing through the ball, not at it).

Get the athletic juices flowing (which is admittedly hard to do in golf sometimes) because if you don't you will be like the typical golfer I described earlier who looks as though everything about him is headed straight into the ground. Very few golfers have too much of a problem with using their legs too much, it's usually more along the lines of throwing their shoulders and everything else right at the contact point.

You will hit the ball further and straighter if you bring a little athleticism between your ears, which will take it everywhere else.

Imagine yourself athletically, and become it.

BIRDIES to you my friend.
