Herpes Zoster-shingles

By:

Many adults suffer with an illness identified as shingles. Shingles is an adult form of chicken pox. This condition tends to show its face when adults are under extreme stress. Shingles is a very painful condition and extremely uncomfortable. A red, blistery rash is the first clue that you may have shingles. It can be a reoccurring event but the unfortunate part is that there is no cure.

Once you get chicken pox as a child, you never get it again. This is not the case for shingles. It can happen anytime your body is extremely stressed. The signs are usually a rash but they tend to feel like needles being pierced into your skin. The rash can occur anywhere on the body but tend to be most commonly in the neck, face, back and torso. Some people have cited that they had the rash on all parts of their body and even complain of pain where they couldn't see any rash.

Each person tends to have a different experience and the two most common symptoms are itching and pain. Some people only get one or the other of these symptoms while many people experience both the pain and burning as well as the itching in the affected area. And while in most cases the instance of shingles can be reduced by some anti-viral medications these tend to have little effect even when given to the patient almost immediately. Most people just tend to wait out the disappearance of symptoms which can happen within just a few days or may last for as many as a few months depending on the person's stress level.

Medical professionals know that there is no way to prevent a reoccurrence or provide a cure. The key would be to reduce the amount of stress in your life. This can be accomplished by eating properly, exercising and to manage the stress by engaging in positive activities. When shingles do occur, some people will find some relief by purchasing over the counter medications that have a topical ointment to anesthetize the rash or minimize the itching.

If you find yourself with a case of the shingles, hope that it will be a short lived case of it. The first time you get shingles you may want to assess your lifestyle and make some changes that can avoid getting more cases in the future. Managing stress is not always easy but it is the most important way to defer getting shingles. While this virus is painful and uncomfortable when you get it, it is not life threatening. First time individuals who get shingles may wish to talk with their doctor more thoroughly to understand ways to minimize the pain and to try and avoid getting this virus again and again.
