Here Is Why Physician Assistants And Nurse Practitioners Are So Important

Do you know the amount of prescriptions that you lost today? If you failed to call on the aid of your nurse practitioners and physician assistants in your area then you make a fair estimate that you lost out on as many as 20 prescriptions. And its going to be the smart people you have competing against you who know where to find those lost prescriptions.

According to the reports given by the American Medical Association, there is now a serious shortage of physicians, at least in the regions and specialties, and that evidence exists for additional shortages in the future. Because of the fact that this nations primary care physicians are decreasing in number, there is a increasing number of NPs and PAs coming into the health care industry and these men and women are starting to perform the tasks that were traditionally always done by physicians themselves. The U.S. Department of Labor has ranked the health care profession of physician assistant as one of Americas fastest growing careers and it has predicted that by the year 2016 there will be a 39% growth in this career.

As the years go by, patients are going to be depending on the health care given by PAs and NPs more than that given by physicians. The shortage of physicians nationwide and the continuing change in the demographics for physicians has revamped the entire landscape for primary care in the united states. Nurse practitioners and physician assistant right now are the ones who are leading when it concerns the care for patients, and if you are a pharmaceutical sales rep. then they may be the ones who help you become more of a success due to the fact that they are able to prescribe medications for patients in some states.

To be more specific, NPs are writing more than 490 million prescriptions every year and PAs are writing more than 250 million every year, but there is still not enough data to say that they dont dispense as many prescriptions as physicians. Pharmaceutical companies cant say for certain how much of a dent PAs and NPs are making when it concerns their prescriptions, and its because of this that pharmaceutical companies are only assigning call credit representatives for the details on physicians.

Even though this is true, it is because of a new national education initiative that is called the Practicing Clinicians Exchange that is helping these companies see just how successful physician assistants and NPs are helping with their pharmaceutical sales. These two professions are very important in the health care industry.
