Helping Your Children Grow

By:

We have come across the topic of parenting advice innumerable times. Some of the solutions seem worthwhile and the others seem too imposing. There is always confusion about where to draw the line. Too much of both love and discipline tends to spoil your child. The balance is very necessary and as your child grows this balance also needs to be shifted accordingly. A good parent can never expect a teen to respond to his words the same way as a preteen would. Adaptation is hence the rule of the game.

Good parenting is all about understanding children rather than expecting them to understand you. Try to be a childs friend rather than bullying around him/her to fulfil your expectations out of them. Remember disciplining children does not mean forcing them to oblige all your wishes. Use your parenting skills to keep your children happy. Grant some of their wishes and you will be surprised to see how they keep your desires. Children are the purest and simplest creatures on the planet. They are not complex like us and hence need to be dealt with simplicity. Befriend them and gain their trust. Its very essential that your kids put 200% of faith in you. If you have their trust they will never utter a single lie to you and you will know about all the ups and downs in their lives. Then you can finally deal with issues accordingly.

Its very essential that you keep a track of their academics. Participate in the assignments that they get. Though you should refrain from doing it yourself for your child there is no harm in helping them with their work and correcting a few mistakes here and there. You should also keep in regular touch with all your childrens teachers. Ask them not only about the academics but also about your kids behaviour at school. Parent teacher meetings are one of the best opportunities to get to interact with the teachers. Make it a point never to miss one.

Except for academics you should also take care of a childs extracurricular activities. Visit annual functions and any other program where they might perform. Your sight in the audience will bring a wide grin on your childs face. Keeping them happy is a very important part of positive parenting.

On report days do not be too aggressive on your children. Praise them if they have done well but also encourage them to do even better in future. Celebrate every success of your child be it a report card or a win in a bicycle race. Do not hype too much though as it might result in over confidence problem for your kids. ON the other hand if your child has not done well do not get too infuriated and rebuke or hit them. Control your emotional outbursts and give your patient hearing. Explain to them the consequences of this result and encourage them to do better in future. Being too strict or too lose are equally bad so it would be advisable to refrain from both.
