One of the best strategies that you can use is instead of taking a break, walk a little bit, and then go back to running. Walking while you are running is not a sign of weakness, especially as you are learning to build your endurance. If you are a marathon runner, or an Olympic sprinter, you might think twice about walking - otherwise it is no big deal. If your goal is fitness and weight loss, there's nothing wrong with alternating between running and walking. Although you may walk a little bit at the beginning of your training, sooner or later, you will run the entire time that you exercise.

There are other exercises you should be doing, other than running, even though it is an exercise that is effective for weight loss. Recent research has shown that doing resistance training on a regular basis will help you lose weight faster, especially if you're also doing something aerobic like running. When you belong to a health club, you can do either lifting weights or resistance machines, and the result will be weight loss. For optimal results then, you should combine these two types of exercise. The best program is probably to do them both on the same day, and if that is the case, you will need to do the resistance machines to begin with, before you end with your running program. Only doing the running will not get nearly as fast of weight loss, than doing both together. It can take some people a bit of time to get used to running. You'll need to allow yourself a bit of time to get accustomed to this new activity if you haven't done any intense exercise for a while. Yet if you're persistent, you'll start to enjoy the health benefits, which include weight loss, having more energy and often feeling more positive in general.
