Help Your Heart With Food

By:

You already know how important it is to have a healthy heart. Think about it: if your heart isn't healthy then the rest of your body won't be healthy. You already know that getting regular exercise and leading a healthy lifestyle both factor heavily into the overall health of your heart. Did you already know, though, that there are some foods that can help your heart be healthier? In this article, you will learn which foods are good for your heart.

Beans--seriously--are super good for your heart. It's true that your nose won't appreciate them so much, particularly the after effects of eating them, but they're very healthy food items. This doesn't mean that the simple act of eating beans will counteract the effects of other unhealthy foods you might be eating. What we do mean is that subbing in beans or edamame for the chicken on your salad or eating a soy burger in place of a beef hamburger is a good idea. The good news is that beans taste good--good enough that you might not miss the beef or chicken.

Blueberries are a fantastic source of heart healthy. Blueberries have lots of antioxidants, especially pterostilbene. Pterostilbene is to blueberries as resveratrol is to grapes. This particular antioxidant helps the body be better at breaking down cholesterol and fats. The easier it is for your body to break down fat and cholesterol, the less likely it is for those things to build up in your system and cause problems for your heart. That, in turn, helps your heart be as healthy as possible.

Fish is just about the healthiest food you can eat. You probably already know this because you've probably been told to make sure that you eat fish at least a couple of times a week. This is especially true for those who suffer from heart problems or who are worried that their hearts aren't healthy. Fish is rich in Omega 3s which are what helps process and turn unhealthy cholesterol into healthy energy. Try to eat fish in at least two meals during each week.

Remember when your parents would tell you an apple a day keeps the doctor away? The truth is that apples have many minerals and elements that keep your heart healthy. They're high in soluble fiber which acts as a scrubber on your artery walls, keeping the cholesterol from taking hold and causing blockages. Eating a single Red Delicious apple each day can cause as much as an eight percent drop in your LDL levels. That's a wonderful number for someone who wants a healthier heart.

There are dozens (if not more) of foods that are great for your body. The truth is that each of the foods that we've talked about here can help your body in lots of different ways. They are particularly good, though, for keeping your heart as healthy as it can be. Try to start incorporating these foods in your diet regularly. Your heart will be grateful for it!
