Another epic La Nia - maybe!

La Nia could be back! For those of us in Western Canada, it seems like summer still hasn't arrived, while those of you in Eastern Canada and most of the USA are experiencing a heat wave. The ski season in Australia is one of the best on record and New Zealand is getting dumped on too.

You may recall in our November newsletter we gave you the heads-up that we were expecting a strong La Nia event. Boy, were we right! We had lots of consistent snowfall all winter long. The guides loved it too as the snowpack was remarkably stable. In January, the Golden area had the biggest storm in about 30 years! We have some awesome pics from January, check out our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/GreatCanadianHeliSkiing

But are you now sitting at your desk regretting that you didn't join us for some epic helicopter skiing, missing out on faceshot after faceshot? Or were you lucky enough to join us last year and you want to relive that feeling again?

Well, good news!! There is a very good chance that we will be seeing another La Nia winter at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing! Ski Magazine posted an exciting article by Meteorologist Joel Gratz entitled Will La Nia Be Back (http://www.skinet.com/ski/content/will-la-nina-be-back) talking about the strong possibility of another La Nia event. In the article Gratz quotes Klaus Wolter of NOAA (the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) Once La Nia gets as big as this one, odds are higher than 50% that it ends up being a two-year event, even if it weakens (or disappears) during the summer.

The article goes on to say: This season's La Nia was the strongest we've seen in the last 35 years, and is in the top 6 since 1950. So in layman's terms, once a La Nia gets this strong for a winter season, while it's likely to weaken over the summer, chances are good that it will strengthen once again next season. In super layman's terms, this means that if you enjoyed this season's snow, there's better than a 50/50 chance that next season will be equally as fun.

So what does this mean to you? It means AMAZING SKIING/BOARDING! The Columbia Mountains (where we are located, which is comprised of the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains) had a snowpack that was 136% of the average (source: Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, Water Supply and Snow Survey Bulletin Archive).

We already have more bookings than we have ever had at this time of year, so spaces are extremely limited. Drop us a line.........you really do NOT want to miss out twice in a row, right? Make sure to join us for a great Canadian mountain holiday!

Have a great summer (winter Down Under) and we hope to ski/ride with you this coming winter.

Cheers,
