Hebrew Lessons: Learning The Alphabet

By:

Hebrew lessons normally begin with the learning of the Alephbet or the Hebrew alphabet. Learning the Hebrew letters can require some practice and skill because they are so different from the English alphabet. But, you need to be prepared to learn the letters in order to progress with your Hebrew Lessons. If you find it difficult to learn the alphabet, here are some tips that can make learning the alphabet simpler and easier to understand.

1.You need to start with your Hebrew lessons by learning the forms of the Hebrew alphabet. With Hebrew, there are two forms the written form of the language and the printed form of the language. To make your Hebrew lessons somewhat easier, you can start with the written form of Hebrew as it is the easiest to learn for beginners. You need to be prepared to experience some confusion and puzzlement as they do not look anything like the English alphabet. Almost all of the letters in the Hebrew alphabet can be written with more than one stroke of your pen.

2.Before you start your Hebrew lessons on the Hebrew alphabet, you need to make sure that you have a Hebrew notebook. This is quite different from an ordinary one because the Hebrew notebook has a series of lines. Hebrew letters are written differently so the line spacing is also unlike that of a conventional notebook.

3.Start your Hebrew lessons on the alphabet by writing the first ten letters which are aleph, bet, gimel, daleth, hay, vaz, zayin, chet, tet, yood. With these letters, each one has a sound that is mimicking the sound of the initial letter. For example, aleph is actually an a, bet is a b, gimel is for g, and so on. You will need to learn these letters and grow comfortable with them. Try writing them as many times as you want until you are able to write them without needing to refer to the study material you are using.

4.After the first ten, your Hebrew lessons will now involve learning the rest of the Hebrew letters. There are 27 letters in all. Each letter of the alphabet has a different sound. As you progress with your Hebrew lessons, you will learn that the best way to learn the alphabet is by practicing writing them and saying their names and sounds aloud.

If you have a friend in Israel, you can ask for childrens books that feature the alphabet alongside pictures so you can have an easier time. Pictures also help to make learning easier.

5.The secret to doing well in your Hebrew lessons is practice, practice, practice and more practice. Write the letters, say them aloud, use them in words, and just keep at it. Hebrew Lessons are very interesting even though you need to keep practicing. The trick is, once you do well with your Hebrew lessons on the alphabet, you will be able to progress more quickly with learning words, phrases and writing sentences.
