Heavy Rain Can Be So Much More Dangerous Than You Realize

Heavy rain fall can cause damage and floods if there is a lot of. It can cause flooding in hours or even less than that and water could be running everywhere on the roads and in your yard. If you live in an area that has a lot of heavy rain, you need to be acquainted with the areas that flood the easiest and most often and avoid them during a rain storm. Heavy rain fall beats on things hard when it hits and can cause damage by just coming down on some things like flowers or other plants. It could have enough force to looses the shingles on your roof without the aid of strong winds.

When it rains so hard, it can be very hard to see when you are driving. If the rain very heavy, you will need to get off the road and wait until it stops raining or at least slacks off before you get back on the road. It can cause accidents easily like cars hitting one another or it can cause you to slide off the road. It can cause your tires to ride slightly off the pavement, this is called hydroplaning, which is very dangerous because you can drift, you can flip, or it can cause you to spin around. When you hit a big puddle of water you can also easily have an accident if you lose control of the vehicle.

So you need to watch out for heavy rain especially when you are traveling. Heavy rain can cause rivers, creeks, streams, and lakes to go over their banks because it causes the water to rise. It does not matter if the banks are high, the water can still get out if it rains a lot. Even downstream where it is not even raining, it can cause floods because the water is rising upstream. It can cause the banks of waterways to wash away and if there happens to be a home sitting too near the edge of the water, usually along a river bank, it can wash the home away too. If the banks of the creeks are close to the level of a bridge it can flood the bridge and do damage to it as well.

If you are caught driving during a heavy rainfall that you suspect is causing water to cover the road you are on, you do not want to try to cross over it because the water can take you with it. Many people have been swept away, vehicle and all, because they tried to cross what looked like an insignificant amount of water on the road.
