A healthy diet is important for much more than just vanitys sake and while we might not want to hear it, eating fast food, junk food and sugary confectionary is not going to do us any favours. Even if you have a fast metabolism and can eat whatever you like without putting on weight, all those unhealthy meals and huge portion sizes could be doing damage you cant see. These risks include diabetes, heart attacks, blood clots, cancer and high blood pressure and all from eating too many sweeties.

Lets take cancer as an example as it still affects such a huge number of people every year in the UK; and lets narrow it down to prostate cancer as this is the most common cancer after skin cancer in men in this country. Although the evidence is still too slight to pin down exactly how diet can affect a persons risks of developing the disease, theres enough for it to be used as a recommendation to follow a varied, balance and healthy diet.

Initial evidence suggests that a diet thats high in dairy, so milk, butter, cream and so on is linked to prostate cancer and that a naturally occurring ingredient in tomatoes might help to reduce the risk. Even though evidence is small, its big enough to bother talking about, dont forget how much sense it makes that what you put in must affect how your body functions.

The effects of a sugary snack or a strong coffee are frightening enough really, should we really be feeding ourselves with ingredients that give us enormous highs and big lows? Probably not but thats the reality and instead of trying to cut them out altogether (this is unrealistic for most people), its worth considering how to cut down. Replace one or two of your cups of coffee with a fruit, herbal or mint tea during the day and limit yourself to a chocolate bar once or twice a week rather than every day. These small changes will make a massive difference to how you feel and how you look.

Unhealthy foods can cause bad skin, bad hair and obviously weight loss or gain in the extreme, they can also make you feel lethargic lacking in energy so you wont be much fun to be around either.
