Health Care Industries With Accreditation

If you were an employer hiring for an important position, you would want to know that the facts on a potential hire's resume were true. Experience is very important, but if someone has a degree from a university specializing in the field they are applying for, it gives them that a certain amount of credibility that you know is valid. The same is true for someone we would hire to fix a structural problem in a home. You would want to know that the person you hire has the knowledge, training, and experience to deal with structural issues. When it comes to health care, this need for assurance is especially important because in health care you are putting your life into the hands of your chosen medical professional. That is why health care accreditation is so important.

Health care accreditation is a process by which a non-government agency or recognized professional association officially recognizes a health care school, health care institution, or individual health care provider, as meeting certain pre-determined requirements in order to be considered a reputable health care institution operating by established standards. This rigorous accreditation process is one that must be carefully prepared for in order to meet recognized standards. Many different health care fields require accreditation from a certain organization in order to be considered a reputable health care provider.

Dentistry, for example, is a field of health care whose accreditation process is conducted by the Commission on Dental Accreditation or CODA, under the auspices of the American Dental Association. According to the CODA, their accreditation process is "a peer review mechanism that includes the involvement of members of the discipline, the broad educational community, employers, practitioners, the dental licensing community, and public members."

Another field of health care in which accreditation would be vital is home health care accreditation. Home health care includes any professional services that might include home nursing, medical social work, physical or speech therapies, or nutrition or dietetics. A home health care agency would offer home care services through a staff of physicians, nurses, therapists, and other professionals whom they would hire and supervise.

The accreditation of nursing schools, another important field, is controlled by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or NLNAC. These important accrediting institutions set the standard of health care quality. If our health care provider is accredited by one of these prestigious agencies, we can rest a little easier knowing that our health care is being taken care of by trained, experienced professionals.
