Health Benefits Of Soybean - What Can Soybeans Do To Help Your Health?

By:

With obesity rates soaring across the globe, more and more people are starting to change their eating habits. Many people who have a problem with weight control are trading in their burgers and fries for more healthy items like fruits and vegetables. Some may not only be just looking for healthier foods, but they may also want foods that offer additional health benefits. One such fruit is the soybean, which has a number of health and medical benefits that come with it. It was originally grown in China, then became popular in Japan, and has been around for more than 10,000 years.

There are many health benefits that are associated with the soybean include things such as lowering 'bad' cholesterol, helping to prevent cancer and reducing the chances of suffering from coronary artery disease, among many others. Another benefit of this particular fruit is the number of nutrients that they contain. They are a great source of various vitamins like B6, B2, B1, E and folic acid. They also contain a great deal of fiber, iron, phosphorus and calcium. They are considered to be a very good source of various proteins as well.

In addition to providing a great number of essential nutrients, the soybean is known to be able to help bring down someone's LDL cholesterol, also known as the 'bad' cholesterol. This is not just some off the wall claim either, as there is scientific evidence to back up these claims with research done in both observational data and clinical trials. The clinical trials showed that after an average of 20 grams of protein from soy products per day, the LDL cholesterol was reduced by nearly 6 percent. This effect is help along even more by the fiber and phospholipids that are also found in soy products.

If all of that was not enough to get you to try some soybean products, there is still more health benefits to talk about. It is believed that the higher soy consumption in Asia is the biggest factor explaining why breast and prostate cancer are seen much less in those countries. Some of the components that make up soy products have been studied and have shown to be effective in preventing either prostate or breast cancer. Women who are suffering from certain types of breast cancer should avoid soy products as test tube research has shown that certain tumors can be stimulated by soy, causing them to grow.
