As the government starts to crack down on alcohol by reducing where it can be displayed in shops, pups closing due to the recession and increased prices and minimum prices being set by the government, a number of people are argueing that
red wine should be exempt from some of these policies. There have been a number of studies which have successfully shown that certain red wines do have benefits to your health if drunk regularly and in moderation compared to those who do not drink any.
Most of the studies have found that due to the fruit which has been used to make the wine, the red wine is very rich in antioxidants. "Resveratrol", the antiodants in red wine, are found in very high levels in the skins of grapes and also in the seeds of the grapes. Each bottle of red wine contains high levels of this antioxidant because of how long the fermentation period is.
Due to the increased antioxidants in the red wine which are believed to be able to combat many diseases and illnesses there are a range of health benefits which we will discuss below.
1) Although not a guaranteed cure, red wine can help prevent a range of neurodegenerative diseases and illnesses such as those which are linking to Parkinsons and Alzheimers disease.
2) Red wine is also thought to help keep your heart healthy. By increasing the levels of good cholesteroal in your body, drinking red wine helps to combat the bad cholesterol which can help to reduce the risk or a stroke or heart attack.
3) Red wine is able to help cleanse your body of any harmful toxins which can help to reduce the effects of food poisoning, dysentery and diarrhea.
4) Red wine contains polyphenols which can help to reduce any bacteria or infection in your mouth which can help with gum disease which is often common in smokers.
5) While red wine can not cure cancer, the amount of resveratol in the wine is thought to help stop cancer cells spreading by drinking a regular and moderate amount of red wine.
6) Regularly drinking a moderate amount of red wine has been shown to decrease the chances of dementia and could even help those already suffering by slowing down the progress.
7) Skin cell damage can be reduced by drinking red wine which can help to keep your skin looking healthy and young.
8) If you suffer from high blood pressure then drinking red wine regularly may be able to help. Your blood pressure can be reduced by drinking red wine which acts as a blood thinner.
