SUMMARY
Blueberries look like a tasty treat and looks are not deceiving here. Blueberries are sweet and delicious and especially helpful for people with Crohn's Disease and Colitis. Discover the beauty of blueberries.

The Beauty of Blueberries
Blueberries have been referred to as a "super food." Indeed, wild blueberries will be included in almost every 'best food' list. Research has shown that blueberries have numerous health benefits.
Blueberries, as well as most other fruits, are believed to be protective for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBD). Actually, Bränning and Åsa Håkanssonin, Sweden researchers, showed that blueberries can counteract intestinal inflammation. Since patients with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) experience such inflammation, blueberries can be a great help to them.
These berries are full of anti-inflammatory phytochemicals. Blueberries are an excellent choice to reduce Crohn’s Disease symptoms. It is thought that the anti-inflammatory effect from blueberries might be due to polyphenols with their antioxidative and antimicrobial effects. As well, the Swedish research team also found that one could increase the potential of blueberries by consuming them with probiotics.
Eating blueberries and probiotics together resulted in fewer bacteria causing inflammation in the intestines. Yet there was an increase in healthy bacteria. This study also focused on the role of rye bran and oat bran in protection against UC but blueberries were the hands-down winner.
Half the calories of a Crohn's Disease and Colitis diet should be made up of complex carbohydrates including fruits and vegetables. People with these conditions should stay away, however, from dried fruit and high-sugar fruit such as watermelon, pineapple, and grapes. Yet blueberries are always a healthy choice. These sweet berries are an excellent source of vitamin C, manganese, niacin, carbohydrates, and dietary fibre.
Blueberries are available in most supermarkets. If you happen to live in an area where wild blueberries grow, you can even pick your own. Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, is known for having the world's most luscious blueberries. The low-bush Newfoundland blueberry can attribute its excellence to its pristine growing environment and mixed climate.
This wild berry with its deep indigo color grows in emerald green meadows, coastal headlands, and forest clearings. Of course, part of the benefit of finding Newfoundland blueberries is in the actual 'picking' – an outing offering fresh air, pure breezes, and untouched landscape. That's the beauty of blueberries.
