A. C. Ryan Playon! HD2 uses the same new interface as AC Ryan Playon! HD Essential 1 TB, which in itself is a real lift when compared with the previous interface. A.C. Ryan has done an update for the older players so they too have the new interface.
We have access to many features including the ability to use the player as the NAS, UPnP streamer and bittorrent client (Transmission which is accessed via web browsers, which unfortunately is buggy as it often crashes with an error message). A funny detail is that we can start a local scan of the local or USB-connected devices which categorizes files on them in the menu selections film, music and images in the interface. However, this is completely separate from YAMJ and bundles just up the files and displays them without any sorting or folder structure and it does not work very well. For example, gather all our separate episodes of
HP pavilion dv6000 batteries along with movies, which is not particularly smooth.
ACRyan Playon! HD2 can access the files via Samba (SMB), NFS and upnp. Just nfs-support is nice since it allows higher transmission facilities, and also right now seems to be the only way to reach a shared folder on a Mac OSX Lion computer that equipped with
acer aspire one battery.
Internet services
Here in Sweden we are supporting Muzee network radio and television, Picasa, Facebook, Yahoo News, Shoutcast Radio, Video Podcasts, Twitter, Youtube, Youtube XL, flickr and something they call "Instant Messaging" which turns out to be eBuddy via the built-in browser.
The only service we can imagine is probably using
HP pavilion dv6 battery, but we know that many people also like to listen to radio via Shoutcast. We live in hope that we ever get to see support for services that Spotify and Voddler in these media players. Just when we completed the test, they changed their Youtube api so that the usual Youtube link stopped working. A.C. Ryan has said they're working on it. Youtube Xl based on HTML5 and still works because at this moment. Maybe it besides HTML5 way Voddler and Spotify should go to get support on these devices?
It is missing while an official web browser, but by going and open a Facebook app, and hit # 1 so we will access Google and can find us on the web. Browser does not support flash but HTML5. Some services, such as Facebook, recommend us to connect a keyboard and mouse, we tested a couple of different keyboards and mice, all worked without any problems.
Jukebox
ACRyan still operate by its own variant of YAMJ (Yet Another Movie Jukebox). To build the library, we need to download software to your PC (Windows).
The library is basically an html file that is created in the folder where we want to scan for movies and TV series. It is therefore useful to split the movies and TV shows in separate folders, otherwise we get one big library where movies and television series are mixed, something that is not particularly attractive.
We tested the latest version, which goes at downloading from AC Ryan and tried to create a library for both movies and also
Dell inspiron 1525 battery.
What we found was that the program works well for movies but have big problems with the TV series. Some
Dell inspiron 6400 batteries can handle it well and give us information for each section, but other series fails completely in spite that it is hardly strange series (eg CSI or Glee). In comparison, as did our Boxee Box without any problems of categorizing all of these TV series and episodes from the same folder structure and file names.
