Have You Taught Your Kids Good Manners?

By:

When kids have good manners at home, you will be amazed at how much smoother all aspects of your family life will be improved. Seldom is a kid going to instinctively know how to behave on their own.

Even very young children can be taught to be polite. Be specific. Teach a child to say "please" and "thank you", or, "no, thank you". Instruct them on being courteous. Tell them not to run in front of people. Talk to them about being tactful. Tell them when and where to say "excuse me". Make them aware of other people's feelings.

Try to find time and words to praise polite and kind behavior when you observe it in one of your kids. Emphasize how proud you are of them.

In their formative years, children learn by example, so try hard to influence them in every positive way possible. Concentrate on finding ways to inspire, motivate and educate. Lead by example. Do not be rude or loud. Also, try not to "lecture" or "put them down". Treat children of all ages with kind respect and they will emulate you.

Kids are uninhibited, curious and, unless they know differently, will sometimes ask embarrassing questions. It is your responsibility, as parents, to tell them why polite behavior is necessary. Instruct them on what not to do, as well.

You will be fostering them with lifelong self-sufficiency. Having good manners is a sign of respect for others. It will help them get along better with friends, teachers, family and anyone else in their lives.

Preparing them well at a young age, is a precious gift you can give your kids.

Chances are good that your kid is going to become a self confident adult with integrity and excellent positive self esteem. Because you cared enough to prepare him, he will likely succeed at most everything he does.
