Have You Mastered Your Kitchen Gadgets?

By:

Look around your kitchen. Search the countertops, the built-in oven, the induction range cooktop. Take in all the different appliances you have, and ask yourself "Do you genuinely know exactly how to use all of this?" Most most people would answer with an unquestionable no.. In certainty, many people today are becoming discouraged with the multiplying levels of technology in what were once fundamental appliances. Here are a few things to think about when taking into account new appliances, and figuring out how to work the challenging appliances you currently have.

Do You Need the Instructions?

Many kitchen appliances have always come with instructions. They got saved in your kitchen drawer if you were responsible, or perhaps just tossed out straight away. While instruction manuals were provided with appliances in years past, they weren't often needed. Most people inherently understood the basic mechanisms on washing machines, ovens, and microwaves. Simply using them, turning them on and off or adjusting levels was obvious and simple to do. Today, instruction manuals are nearly textbooks. Dozens of pages, along with picture details, and required to help you simply use the machine. Ask yourself if you already know how to operate the kitchen appliance, without instructions. If not, skip that model and find a simpler one to purchase instead.

Value for Money?

Kitchen appliances like a microwave come in a wide variety of styles, prices and functions. Many companies want to offer a higher end model that costs more, but in order to do so they need to add several new functions to convince customers that the product is worth the higher price. Microwaves not have buttons for everything, from popcorn to defrosting chicken to reheating soups. In the not to distant past, people simply adjusted the length of time or the power level to cook these items, but today's modern appliances take the guesswork out by adding in hundreds of button combinations. Few people use all the options they are given, even if they spend money on an upscale "luxury" microwave with all the bells and whistles. When it comes time to purchase a new item for your kitchen, browse the lower priced simple items before investigating the advanced models. In most cases, you will find that the simpler model is really all you need.

Is it Worth the Struggle?

Are today's modern kitchen appliances, with their plethora of buttons and gadgets, really worth all the hype? For many people, the answer in now. However, mass advertising campaigns are doing their best to convince people that they need the top of the line whisk, with 17 buttons and a function for everything you could imagine. Along with the challenge of simple operating these machines, they are also often more likely to fail because there are so many potential things that can go wrong. If you find yourself contemplating the purchase of a new-fangled and technologically advanced kitchen appliance, ask yourself if it will be worth the eventual struggle.

From microwaves to coffee makers, kitchen appliances are constantly being upgraded with new buttons, functions and switches to the point that many users simply don't understand them at all. Do you?
