Have You Encountered Water Damage In The Attic Of Your Home

By:

This seems to be a problem across the United States, home owners trying to get a handle on the different types of water damage overall. There are so many ways to receive water damage in a home, it is like trying to keep up with the economy and we all know how difficult that can be. When we get water coming into our home from an unknown source, this can be a very tough situation to deal with when trying to locate how water is entering the home.

When you have moisture or water coming into the attic though, it is an easy task to remedy when finding where the problem is occurring at. Having moisture that just sits in the attic with no place to go but to settle on the insulation is what many of us deal. This is caused by no air circulation in your attic and is not very hard to solve. With a trip to the hardware store you can take care of this one. Purchasing an exhaust fan for the attic is all that is really needed. This may require some experience in the electrical field, but can also be done by a homeowner themselves. This will circulate enough air to eliminate the moisture that is present in the attic.

If this does not solve the moisture problem, there is only one other place that this can be generating from and that is the roof of your home. Yes, that is right, those dreadful words, the roof. It may not be as bad as to have a new one put on, but it will require some work. Normally, when water is coming from the roof, it is attributed to some type of debris hitting the roof either in a storm or strong winds that penetrates a shingle or two.

When a small water leak starts underneath a shingle, the water will find itself running pretty much any where it decides to run. It can run down the side of rafters and all though out the insulation of the ceiling. Locating where the water is entering the attic should be done from the roof itself, this way you might can see the puncture of the shingle an know exactly where the water it entering.

Another way to locate the vicinity of the roof leak is to be inside the attic when it rains and watch for it there. If you know much about roofing, replacing a couple of shingles is not very hard to do, but if this leak has been present for a while, then you may have encountered some other problems like mold and mildew damage from the water and rotting wood and this may need to be looked at by a water damage company.
