Have Fun With Your Kid As You Teach Them New Things

By:

If you have young kids, you know how important it is to find ways to make learning fun. Children seem to always get more from what you are teaching them if they are able to have fun while they are doing it. You will be able to teach them numerous fun educational games at home without needing to spend outrageous prices on electronic learning games found in stores. Most of the time you can even be the one developing these games and you don't even have to spend too much time or effort on them. Here are a few great ideas for fun learning games you can make for your child.

Alphabet Hunting

If your kids don't know how to read yet, then a really good thing for them to learn is to have the ability to learn the sounds in the alphabet and identify words that start with these sounds. Fill a three-ring binder with twenty-six plastic page protectors to make an alphabet binder. After that print one letter from the alphabet in upper case as well as lower case on every page, using a permanent marker. Or, you could use colorful alphabet stickers to mark the pages. Give your child the notebook, a collection of old magazines, and some round-tip scissors. After that they get to look through the magazines to find pictures of items that start with each letter of the alphabet. Whenever they find one they can cut it out and place it in the right page protector. Whenever they are done, review their result together. If there are any pictures in the wrong page, talk about them and find the correct page together. You may then empty all of the page protector sheets, and your child can play the game again. Another fun step to include to that is to let your child use the images they cut out to make a photo collage out of their magazine clippings, then place the collage in a cute yellow picture frames, or whichever color they might like.

Number Scavenger Hunt

This activity can be adjusted based on the skill level of your youngster. For the child who is just finding out how to count and recognize numbers, write the numbers 1 all the way through 10 on a small stack of sticky notes, just one number on each sheet. Then give the stack of sticky notes to your child and let them look all over the house for things that match every number. Whenever they are able to locate a match, they then get to stick the right numbered note to that certain object. For instance, if they were able to find a TV that had 5 different buttons on it then this would match their number "5," and at the same time their bureau with three drawers would get a number "3," and if you have multiple children you might even let them race to see who is able to find all of the numbers first. For the older kid who is learning addition and subtraction, you might place math problems on the sticky notes instead of the actual number. The objective would then be to answer the math problem and find objects that match up with the answers. Needless to say, this game might also be altered for other learning experiences, such as giving your kid a sticky note pad with letters of the alphabet on them or perhaps the names of different colors. It is often fun to watch your kid as they have fun with this game, so make sure you take a few pictures, which you may then display in pretty triple picture frames to look at later.

Not only will both you and your child have a wonderful time playing these fun games, but your child will learn a whole lot while they have fun.
