Hartford: Used Audi A4 Hits 300,000-mile Mark

Recently, two Minnesota residents reached an impressive feat of over 300,000 miles on their Audi odometers. The first Audi driver is Mr. Don deChambeau, aged 63 and a resident of St. Cloud, Minnesota. In 2001, Mr. deChambeau purchased a silver Audi TT with the intention of using the vehicle for his daily commute between St. Cloud and St. Paul, Minnesota, a drive that totals more than 150 miles. Stereotypically, society believes that in order to reliably make it through such a commute and consistently get to work during a Minnesota winter, a four-wheel-drive large SUV is a must. Mr. deChambeau, however, has proved otherwise.
"I drive the car year round. It's a perfect car for Minnesota because of the Quattro feature and good gas mileage. It's a car that's made for this part of the world," says Mr. deChambeau. The 346,193 miles tracked on his odometer attest to this claim.
Whats more, Mr. deChambeau claims that his Audi TT has stood up to the salt heavily used on Minnesota roads during the winter months. "Out here in Minnesota we use a lot of road salt but, there's not a bit of rust on my TT. I've had other cars in the past where the bodies go before the engine does because of salt, but not the TT," he says.
The other Minnesota resident and Audi driver in our story is Mr. Don Nygaard, a 74-year-old residing in Roseville, Minnesota. Mr. Nygaard credits his neighbor for his Audi purchase, saying his neighbor would brag about how great the vehicles were in Minnesota weather. 301,600 miles later, Mr. Nygaard wholeheartedly agrees.
"The Quattro is outstanding in the snow. That's why I've piled up so many miles on the car. I've never had an accident. I still have the original engine and original transmission. All those trips to Duluth I never once not made it, no matter how bad the storm!" said Mr. Nygaard.
So with 300,000 miles plus on each vehicle, one has to wonder if our two Dons are planning to replace their Audis yet. It perhaps comes as no surprise that Mr. deChambeau has another idea in mind: "The next magical mark is 400,000. I'm going to find out if I can make it.
