However, a live lobster preparation can be done in various manners. It can be grilled, boiled or steamed. The most important thing is that there are no hassles in cooking up a lobster recipe. Some of the important things that should be kept into consideration while handling a live lobster are as follows:



  • Prompt handling and quick refrigeration are the two most important things that should be done with most of the lobster variety, but it should be real fast for a live lobster. Lobsters usually need to remain in a cold, moist and wet condition in order to survive when it comes out of water during low tides.

  • Live lobster is usually delivered in cartons like eggs. Handle the lobster carton with lot of care. These are actually very tender to touch and tend to get smashed and broken when handled in a rough manner. Make sure that the live lobster carton is not crushed, dumped, thrown or dropped from great heights as it will damage the lobster inside.

  • While opening the live lobster carton ensure that you do it in a cold and damp area. The lobster will survive in this condition. Open the carton to find if the lobster is alive. You can easily make that out since a weak lobster will have droopy and hanging tails and claws. Cook these as quickly as possible.

  • While taking out a fresh and live lobster, make sure that you place the lobster on a dampened paper.

  • Do not let the tail of a live lobster curl up while storing it in a container. Also do not pile one lobster over another and stuff the container.

  • Most importantly, cover the container properly in which you are storing the live lobster. Put the container in the refrigerator as soon as possible.
