Hair Volume 101

By:

Hair that is lacking in volume is frequently described as fine, lifeless, flat or dull. This could be caused by a variety of assorted factors: insufficient moisture content, poor eating habits, improperly selected hair products and solutions, and a bunch of other causes. In order to add more volume to your hair, one has to follow a rigid hair care routine, utilize appropriate hair shampoos and conditioners, and think about making improvements in diet. There are several at-home tips and home remedies that might also make it possible to add volume to your hair.

FOLLOW A GOOD HAIR CARE ROUTINE

1. Wash your hair as needed: Cleansing your hair every day is not ideal, but if you insist you'll probably be fine when the weather is cold and the humidity is down. However when it gets warmer outside, try not to wash your hair more than every other day. Additonally, do not use hot water, only warm, as overly-hot water will dry your scalp.
2. Regular trims: Cutting off the split ends on a semi-regular basis will do wonders in terms of your hair's thickness; thus, trimming your hair regularly is an absolute must. Shorter hair styles with layers tend to put forth the illusion of volume and are easier to manage.

USE THE CORRECT SHAMPOO

1. Use volumizing shampoos: All these variaties of shampoos will help to add moisture content and thickness to your mane.
2. Use clarifying shampoos: Adding hair volume requires that you first wash with a clarifying shampoo to remove any hair buildup that you currently have. This type of shampoo should be used twice and then rinsed out. This treatment should be completed every so often to prevent future build up in the hair

IMPROVE YOUR DIET

1. Consume foods that are protein rich, such as beans, fish, eggs and spinach, to contribute to healthy hair. Drinking between 8 and 10 glasses of water every day hydrates the hair as well as the scalp which removes excess oil that can cause hair to become flat.

TRY A DIY CONCOCTION

1. Vinegar rinse: Your hair's natural oils, as well as hairstyling products, can over time get caked onto your hair (yuck!). A vinegar rinse performs a deep cleansing and gives the hair life and body. The vinegar will remove hair buildup, invigorate the scalp, and allow the hair to have more body and shine.
2. Egg mask: Eggs contain a large amount of protein which helps to thicken strands. The mixture (2 to 4 eggs, ½ tsp olive oil, ½ tsp lemon juice) should be rubbed into the scalp in a gentle motion, left on for at least 20 minutes, and then thoroughly rinsed with cool water.
3. Baking soda: Baking soda affixes itself to dirty and oily particles to clean the hair and increase its body. Simply add 1 tablespoon to your shampoo, and massage it into the scalp. Completely rinse wit out, and apply a little more shampoo one more time.
4. Proper use of a blow dryer: To easily increase your hair's volume, make sure you are not using your hair dryer on an overly-hot setting. Move your fingers in your hair and raise it about 2 inches from the root. Pull the hair in the direction opposite of the way you want it to lay, and dry the underside of the hair. This will provide incremental body and volume when you let go.
