By:

Personal breathalyzers are being used in record numbers to test the blood alcohol content (BAC) in family members, friends, and themselves, according to the annual sales figures. The breathalyzer market value is up from $28,900,000 in 2007 to $216,300,000 in 2009.

While there are numerous law enforcement officials who actually discourage the use of personal breathalyzers and they question the accuracy of them. They believe that the use of a personal breathalyzer to make a decision about driving and drinking is less credible than the breathalyzers that are used by police departments.

They also believe that a person who is intoxicated might not administer the test properly. However, others feel it is extremely useful in some situations like parents who have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to their children and the consumption of alcohol.

It is believed that BAC is a reasonably objective way to determine the amount of alcohol that affects a person's reflexes and abilities even though alcohol affects each person differently.
There are a considerable that die every year in accidents that are alcohol related and the numbers increase if the first time drinkers such as those who are exposed to alcohol for first time like college freshman who might not know what it feels like to be intoxicated are included in those numbers.

The use of a personal breathalyzer shows that a person wants to drink responsibly and if they know their own limits they will be better able to decide their own personal capacity. Usually, it is a good idea to have some personal breathalyzers around if a person is hosting a party as a way to avoid someone getting hurt or hurting someone else in an alcohol related accident on their way home.

There are numerous places have already started to use the personal breathalyzer. There many bars, nightclubs, and even some school sponsored events like dances, where the teenagers are tested prior to them even being allowed inside the dance. If alcohol is found at any time during the dance, everyone is tested and those who test positive are asked to leave the dance.

The cost of a personal breathalyzer is usually anywhere between $300 for a quality digital breathalyzer to approximately $4.00 for a disposable model that is intended for a single use. Most people consider both to be money well spent. Whether you believe in them or not, the personal breathalyzer is here to stay.
