Every year Macau is the location as the host for the World Heritage Travel Expo. This event takes place with the assistance of the UNWTO (China State Administration of Cultural Heritage and World Tourism Organisation) and was initially hosted at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel in Macau; however, the venue has recently been shifted to the Cotai Strip Convention and Exhibition Centre as the show has grown in stature over recent years.

Normally taking place annually each September, this 3 day event which is organised by the Hong Kong based Coastal International Exhibition Company, helps to promote all aspect of heritage and travel.

Various forms of natural and cultural heritage from across the globe are showcased, with the events aim also to promote the development and investment of funds into the various tourist attractions. The key issues that the World Heritage Travel Expo deals with are the improvement of protection of sites, improvement of investments, restoration work in various tourist sites and the maintenance of these sites. There is also a focus on itinerary planning and development of various aspects of tourism in general.

Visitors who attend this expo include people from various tourism-related industries. The main focus of the exhibition is to promote business travel, organisation of meetings, travel budget management and development. There is also a focus on managing companies budgets and various budgetary allocations. It is an opportunity for the exhibitors to build their base in the country, interact with various potential clients and customers and gauge their competition in order to build a more effective business plan.

The World Heritage Expo focuses on the development of tourism and cultural destinations across the world and is attended by industry professionals from airline companies, serviced apartments and hotel owners, promoters and developers and railway line operators. Representatives from vehicle rental agencies, booking agents, airport management staff and government officials also attend this event to highlight their latest offering to a global audience.
