When looking through the wine list, if you feel that you are not familiar with most of the wines on it, it is best to ask for some help with making your selection. If you are having dinner in an up-market place, you can ask for the help of the restaurant' sommelier. The sommelier is a highly-trained wine specialist and has the responsibility for creating the wine list thus ensuring that the featured wines complinent the restaurant's food menu.

Since not every restaurant employs sommelier or the place you are dining is not that fancy, you can ask to speak to the wine specialist instead. Most likely this will be someone from the staff or the restaurant's owner who knows the wine list quite well.

After you have enlisted the expert help of the sommelier or the wine specialist, you just need to follow these easy tips to ensure you make the best choice: 1 If no wine choice pops out at you from the list, just ask the wine specialist what his wine recommendation will be that will compliment your meal choice.
2 However, if you have made a choice from the wine list but you are finding it difficult to actually pronouce the wine's name , the easiest way will be to just point to it or give the wine's item number.
3 If several wines have caught your attention, you can ask the wine specialist to recommend which one will go best with your meal. An additional bonus to doing that is that you give an indication to the wine specialist of your price range.
