2. Doberman Pinschers. Though they notoriously fierce, these dogs are also loving, making them a good choice as a friend for the whole family as well as a home security tool. They are perceptive and quite skilled at differentiating between a dangerous situation and a safe one. This means that they are unlikely to attack an acquaintance or guest that is not posing any threat to the family. However, they are very strong and must be carefully trained to restrain when attacking an indruder so that they do not end up killing them.

3. Rottweilers. These are perhaps the most famous guard dogs of all time. They are naturally dominant, which is something that potential owners need to be aware of when considering bringing one of these dogs into their home. If they are not correctly socialized, they can be dangerous to your family. If, however, they are properly trained from an early age, their aggressiveness and destructive genetic tendencies, combined with their large stature and strength, can be used to your advantage in a home security context.

A properly trained guard dog can indeed be very effective in warding off burglars and defending your home. However, they should not be relied upon as your sole home security method. It is recommended that you also invest in a professional security system with alarms and monitoring. There is always the chance of a situation getting out of control and, depending on how violent the intruder is, your dog being injured or even killed. As painful as it may be to consider this possibility, it is your responsibility as the head of the family to be prepared with a back-up plan.
