When Grand Theft Auto first came out, gamers loved it and it has not looked back since, gaining more recognition and winning fans' adoration as one of the best gaming franchises to hit the scene. As more titles has been released over the past years, it was not only an achievement for the said franchise but for the whole of the video gaming industry. And for those who was played this game, you can pretty much tell how it has propelled the Sandbox genre as a hit among gamers. With this ninth iteration from the well-known series, GTA 4 picks off where GTA 3 ended. However, the series has given gamers with an entirely new experience with each game, and fans can certainly expect the same with GTA IV.

A common denominator among every GTA story has been that it is, to a certain extent, highly absorbing and out of this world. But GTA 4 provides a different perspective into the game's storyline. In this game, players will get to immerse in the persona of Niko Bellic, who is a former soldier wanting to escape a troubled past, not knowing that more trouble await him in Liberty City. Niko does not have trouble fitting in because of his rugged and rough appearance, and here is where all the fun of exploring Liberty City starts. But unlike previous GTA characters, Niko has specific objectives to achieve and giving more weight into the overall gameplay experience. Characteristic of the previous games off the series are the random acts of violence springing from out of nowhere, but with GTA 4 Niko must accomplish certain tasks and that is the main priority here.

With Niko being the main focus of the story, this does not mean though that the other characters present in GTA 4 have no significance in the overall gameplay and storyline. For the most part, they will greatly impact the decisions Niko has to make in the game that involve a few characters and it will have repercussions in the game. Meanwhile, building relationships is a key in this game and unlike other GTA games, you will have to think them through.

More than the impressive gameplay, Liberty City is the perfect setting for an incredible game like GTA 4 and it just looks impressively stunning. With so much attention given to details, it is only fitting that it was created not only for the eyes but serves their purpose in the game.

But that is just a preview of what GTA IV is really about. It has used the previous GTA games as a launching pad for a much better and improved gameplay system. The combat system is probably the best feature of GTA IV. There's definitely more excitement into the game with a few very efficient feature that gamers can use to their advantage. There is still the free-aim feature, but the new lock-on feature will surely improve your accuracy. By setting your aim on an opponent and locking on to them, not one bullet will now go to waste. You simply press a button and there goes your enemies, blasting off in Hi-Def. This game also sports off a new cover system. By simply pressing R1, you can make your character hug the nearest suitable object. This will enable your character to effectively cover from your enemies' view and is a great way to deal with an overwhelming number of enemies. What this new feature does is that you can minimize the any form of damage that can possibly get your character killed. With this new combat system in your arsenal, playing in GTA IV has become a much more rewarding experience.

If you though that was impressive, wait till you hear about GTA IV's new in-car combat system. GTA IV has definitely been made more exciting with this new combat system that promises to be just as effective as on-foot combat and yet a whole lot more exciting. Even when driving a vehicle, you can lock-on your nearest opponent. It is still possible to free-aim at your enemies through the car's window. But it can be a daunting task sometimes having to make sure that you don't crash while you're doing your best to hit the enemies. All these efforts of improving the game play mechanics is done to live up and even surpass fans' expectation of what GTA IV can deliver.

One important thing that needs to be tackled when talking about GTA IV is the mission structure. Because the previous GTA's have been proven, this game carries on the winning formula. With each mission, you will have all of Liberty City to explore and you can be assured that each mission will offer a unique, but equally challenging, experience. And we have to say, the GTA IV missions are definitely the most action-packed and exciting the game has ever seen.

While in Liberty City, Roman's phone will be used by Niko and plays a key role in the game. This will be used as your control panel and can be a source of information on what needs to be done to get the game going. You can use the phone to receive messages about certain missions, and may also serve as your main access to multiplayer features and anything you have to accomplish the progress in the game. With the use of the phone as your main control panel in this game, players will feel more involved into the world of the game instead of stopping to send out specific commands.

Also, an exciting new addition to this new GTA game is the online multiplayer feature. You can have as much as sixteen players competing against each other, which definitely raises the level of intensity within the game. But GTA IV is determined to reign supreme among those considered epic games (like Call of Duty 4 and Rainbow Six Vegas) as the king of Multiplayer by infusing some more unique game modes.
