Grooming An Atv Trail

Grooming An Atv Trail

By:

Most ATV trails are up in the mountains or hills. They are usually pretty bumpy and are meant to be fun. The trails however, do need regular upkeep in order to keep them safe and healthy. If you are making your own trail, you will be responsible for this upkeep.

If you want to make your own trail there are a few things to remember. First, make sure you have all the rights needed in order to make a trail. Once you've cleared your trail make sure and test drive it with proper ATV shocks.

ATV trails are meant to be bumpy and fun. That is why the ATV shocks are made so well. Keep the ATV shocks in mind as you are creating a trail. You want to allow enough bumps to provide a good ride, but you also don't want it to cause injury. Level out any areas that may be too difficult for an ATV to handle.

If you are simply grooming an existent trail, don't cut corners on safety. You want to make sure other riders that are out on the trails know that the trail is being worked on. You should put up signs at the beginning and end of the trail letting them know what's going on.

Most of the trail grooming will be cutting down overgrown plants and branches. The best time to groom an ATV trail is during the spring time as that is when most of the growth takes place. You will probably need a chain saw to cut away the really tough parts.

The width of the trail may be unknown if the overgrowth is really bad. Take an ATV up with you as you are grooming so you can properly judge how wide to make the trail. Be sure an cut away some extra room so it will take longer to grow back into the trail.

Another problem you may want to take action on is the bugs up around the trails. Most of the time, you should let nature take its course but there are times when you will want to spray down the trail. Usually this will be needed when there are large infestations near the ATV trails.

Whether you're creating an ATV trail or grooming one that already exists, you will need to know what you're doing. Be sure and address all safety issues and be smart about what you're doing. A good, clean trail will keep riders safe and having fun.
