Greener Cars Spread To Volvo

By:

Volvo is the latest car manufacture to launch a new set of 'green cars' in keeping with what seems to be a hungry market demand for economical and environmentally friendly motoring.

The new DRIVe models have been designed to offer excellent fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions at a time where the general public are beginning to become more and more aware about the environmental impact of cars when deciding on their next vehicle.

Some people may even be more concerned with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than looks and performance. It seems that Volvo have managed to combine the two where some manufactures have failed as the new models are reasonably good looking - particularly their new C30.

Volvo, keen to spread the potential for green-motoring sales across their range offer the DRIVe from the Volvo C30, via the S40 to the Volvo V50 DRIVe. The S40 and V50 even offer best-in-class CO2 emissions in their categories.

The change in emissions and fuel consumption is all down to adjustments that have been made to the engine and aerodynamics and a slight adjustment in the gearbox. The lower fuel consumption is good news when it comes to your wallet - particularly with the changing (mostly increasing) petrol prices.

Looks wise the range of DRIVe models are all fairly good looking and have a unique sporty-feel to them. The C30 in particular has a distinctive spoiler - which has been designed to make it more aerodynamic and to smooth off airflow.

It has a curvy rear and a streamlined profile and is definitely the best looking of the group and, possibly, the best looker Volvo have made. Those looking for more room for the kids and family shopping will probably be looking to the roomier V50.

Other features such as the lowered suspension, blanked-off grille, low ride height and low resistance tyres all contribute to reducing fuel consumption and, in turn, save you some money! All the DRIVe models also fall below the 120g/km CO2 threshold, which means they fall into tax band B, saving you yet more money.

The DRIVe models are available in three-trims, the S, the SE and the SE lux. The S includes electronic climate control, electric windows and a 6-speaker radio/ CD system. The SE level trim includes rain sensors, cruise control and aluminium trim. The luxurious SE lux adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, luxury floor mats, seat memory and so many creature comforts you'd be surprised how comfortable you can be helping the planet.

That Volvo have joined the march toward marketing greener and more efficient motoring could certainly be seen as a step in the right direction and could even be considered as a sign that such moves are likely to become more widespread and mainstream.
