Green Tea And Natural Acne Remedies

By:

It's amazing how such a small word can evoke such large emotions in people. Hundreds upon thousands of adolescents (and adults as well) suffer from this oftentimes embarrassing skin ailment. People seek out any possible treatment, but increasingly, attentions have been turning to green tea and other natural acne remedies.

We're all familiar with this ancient Chinese beverage that has been consumed for thousands of years to treat everything from high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes among a host of other maladies.

But not many of us are aware of this powerful plant's ability to be useful in applications other than its internally taken form, it can also be used topically.

Poultices, eczema treatments, and wound cleansing rinses have all gotten a boost from this wonder leaf's presence. However, green tea has recently proven itself in scientific studies to be very beneficial in natural acne remedies as well.

It comes from the same plant as all true teas,Camellia sinensis. What sets this powerful antioxidant apart from the other teas of its same family is that it's very minimally processed.

In fact, the only processing it receives is from the steaming of the leaves to prevent any oxidation. The powerful antioxidants and beneficial phytochemicals present in the unfermented leaves would be lost if they underwent any further processing.

These power-packed antioxidants are what are believed to lend themselves to the acne fight.

An independent study in 2003 reported to the American Academy of Dermatology observed that patients treated with green tea acne cream at 3% strength saw as much acne reduction as those given a 4% strength Benzoyl Peroxide solution.

The beauty of using this natural acne remedy, instead of the synthetic and highly-irritating Benzoyl Peroxide, is that there is no harshness or excess drying that accompanies the use of Benzoyl Peroxide.

Some people may not necessarily be able to afford the extract cream, but fear not!

The same benefits of the cream can be found by making your own green tea and natural acne remedies.

Some people prefer to take in these benefits internally, while others notice great improvement when taken topically.

You can make a quick facial mask by mixing some powdered green tea, a little water, lemon juice and honey. You can apply this as a spot treatment or as a mask if your whole face is excessively oily or covered with blemishes.

Mix everything together until you have a smooth paste about the consistency of white glue. The honey has great antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and the lemon acts as an amazing astringent. Leave this on for approximately 5 minutes then rinse off with warm water followed by cool water.

After you've finished drinking your morning or evening brew, try rubbing the teabag on your face. Leave this to sit for a few minutes before washing your face.

If your schedule doesn't allow for drinking multiple cups per day, once again, fret not!

There are many extracts and capsules on the market which give the same effect as drinking 2 cups per day.

If you are already taking something topically, then it is advisable to consult with your dermatologist first.

But bear in mind, green tea is perfectly fine to drink while on other acne medication. It'll help heal your skin from the inside out and is one of the best natural acne remedies out there!
