By:

Greece travel advice really should talk about the number of ancient sites and buildings that you should perhaps visit during your trip. Some are of course world famous but just a bit of research shall let you see that there are others that are just as spectacular to visit and since the whole Greece tourism industry depends so much on them here are just a few buildings you should look at visiting.

You do have to be prepared to travel to the Greek islands in order to see some of the sites as in ancient times there were civilizations known as the Minoans and their remains are on the island of Crete. However, the majority of them are on the mainland of Greece so it is quite easy to move around using the public transport network.

To start off with you should perhaps focus on the buildings in and around Athens since it has one of the main sets of buildings connected with the ancient civilization in the Acropolis. You should be aware that there a number of different Acropolis across the country but there is no doubt that the one at Athens is the most famous.

The most well known building within the Acropolis is the Parthenon and it really is the building that epitomizes this ancient civilization. There are several others in the complex and it is of course best to go on a guided tour so you can really learn about the history of the area and the important role it has actually played in the development of civilization in general.

Mt Olympia played an important role in Greek culture as it was seen as a sacred place for the god Zeus and of course we now associate it as the birthplace of the Olympic games which is just one of many Greece facts that you shall pick up on your trip. There are a number of buildings you should visit in this particular complex with a variety of temples, feasting areas and of course the earliest Olympic area so visiting this area shall quite easily fill an entire day.

You may also consider travelling to the site of Delphi which does appear on the list of world heritage sites controlled by UNESCO. The most famous building here is the temple to Apollo but you do have a number of others to see including another stadium which formed part of the sporting calender where events were held every four years just like our own Olympics.

A trip to Crete shall let you explore the ruins of the Minoan civilization which was established there in the Bronze Age and the main place to visit is the palace of Knossos. It is a massive site so shall take you a day to explore and some travel agents can arrange the day trip for you or you may decide to go there yourself but it is actually seen as being one of the best buildings in the entire country.

So any Greece travel advice should contain details about the historical buildings in the country but there are far too many to be mentioned here. It has not included ancient buildings in Mycenae to more modern history such as the fortress at Thessaloniki so the best advice is to do some homework and create a wish list of the places you would like to visit the most.
