Greater Responsibility Expected By The Marriage Producer Of Arya Samaj

When it comes to marrying the Arya Samaj way, there are two differing set of opinions of the people. At the one hand, there are the people who view this is the positively light and consider it a much needed respite to the people who are looking for the social, legal and divine sanction for their marriage. On the other hand, there are people, mostly the parents and the near and dear ones of the marrying couple, who views this wedding as a movement away from the social and family wishes. Also, the couples who are getting married use this medium to marry quickly. This has met with some objections from the society which believes that there are many loopholes in the system which can be used by the couple to do love marriage in Delhi by misleading the marriage producer of the Arya Samaj.

There is requirement for each of the couple to bring the witnesses but the veracity of the same can not be established. This is clearly not a sufficient measure. Further, in case of couples entering into love marriage in Delhi, there is no way to establish that there has been no misguidance done by one of the couple to the other. The same has also been outlined by a recent Rajasthan High Court judgment. There is no mechanism to ascertain the veracity and truth behind the claims of the couple. The mechanism is more robust in case of the court marriages where there is a notice period of one month given to the other people to raise their objections to the marriage. This measure is helpful in bringing out anything which could have misled the courts. An element of the same mechanism is now intended to be introduced in these weddings taking place in Rajasthan as well.

Marriage producer of the Arya Samaj is now expected to be more responsible in the conduct of the marriages in Rajasthan. There are no quick marriages any more. Now, there is a requirement of informing the parents of the couple about the marriage through the police. It has been directed that at least six days times shall be given to the parents to form a conscious decision on this part. And, besides informing the parents, there are some other requirements for the marriage to take place.

These weddings can not be solemnized unless these are approved and recommended by two distinguished persons from each side. Further, there is a requirement of producing three prominent people as witnesses from each side.

The judgment has been necessitated following the advantage taken by the couples to enter into wedlock by leaving a bad taste for the society. Further, it aims to establish certain checks and balances to ensure that this institution, set up with a noble cause, is not used in a wrong way. The cue from the Rajasthan High Court judgment is likely to be followed by the other states as well and the marriage producer of the Arya Samaj will have to act more responsibly in discharge of his duties.
