Golf workouts are necessary in order to achieve a full range of motion during the golf swing. All three of these elements are necessary to build the fitness level necessary to be competitive in today"s world of golf. Players who are not investing the time and effort it takes to improve their overall level of fitness are just not as competitive as their counterparts who invest time and effort in the gym.

When you begin your workout routine, start slowly. Just because a friend is able to lift a certain amount of weight or complete a certain number of repetitions is no indication that your fitness level is the same. If you have not been working out regularly or are not very physically active, it is necessary to start where you are and build gradually. This takes time and patience, but going too far too fast can lead to injury.

Stretching before your exercises begin is another way to prevent injury. This also improves your flexibility, which directly translates into a fuller, more powerful golf swing. Before stretching, warm your muscles with about ten minutes of walking, swimming or other exercise. This gets the blood flowing, warms up your muscles and allows them to stretch further without being injured.

Cardiovascular exercise builds the heart muscle, but it also increases endurance. Cardiovascular exercise is any exercise that raises the heart rate and keeps it elevated for a duration of at least thirty minutes per day. Unlike lifting weights, where you need to give your muscles a forty-eight hour rest between workouts, stretching and cardiovascular exercise can be done every day.

Golf workouts also need to include strength training. Focus on your core strength with lots of exercise for your abdomen, sides and back. Strengthening your core is the best way to improve your fitness for the golf course. After any workout, perform cool down exercises before ending the session.
