Great Uk Destinations For Family Holidays

Great Britain is very much back in fashion for family holidays. A Geat British holiday, or 'staycation' as it has come to be known as, offers an affordable and great fun getaway with none of the associated hassle of foreign travel.

The resurgence of interest in holidays at home from British families has meant renewed interest and investment in the traditional seaside destinations of the 1960s and 70s. Family holidays in the UK are officially back on the agenda.

Devon

This county offers a wealth of interesting towns and cities, but perhaps what Devon does best is beaches. Miles of sandy beaches stretch round its two coastlines, and provide the perfect backdrop to summer family holidays full of fun in the sun.

One of Devon's most well-known surfing beaches is Croyde Bay, with powerful waves and excellent-quality sand banks. This beach is set along North Devon's Heritage Coastline just next to Croyde village; a charming little assortment of thatched cottages, eateries and shops selling gifts and beach equipment.

Another great beach is Torre Abbey Sands, which is large and sandy during low tide. It's a popular beach with families as the water is very shallow, meaning it's safe for children, and it boasts good pushchair access.

Norfolk

The county of Norfolk is famed for the Norfolk, 120 miles of waterways which you can navigate by boat if you so choose. Boating holidays have grown in popularity steadily and are a great way to spend family holidays; cruising the waterways on lazy summer days and stopping off along the way for picnics, bike rides and lunch at wonderful riverside country pubs.

Norfolk isn't only good for The Broads however. North Norfolk is home to Cromer, a cliff-top seaside town which overlooks beautiful sandy beaches and there is a promenade and a pier full of fun family amusements.

A trip to Norwich should be part of all family holidays in Norfolk if there's time. This city has something for everyone; from striking cathedral architecture to excellent shopping and restaurants.

Scottish Highlands

The Scottish Highlands is a land of lochs, glens, mountains and lush, dark and mysterious forests, and family holidays here are all about exploring the great outdoors. Nature provides endless fascination here; the scenery is simply stunning and there is a range of activities on offer depending on where you stay, from white-water rafting to kayaking as well as some excellent golf courses.
