Great Tips On Selling Collectible Toys

By:

When looking into new and interesting ways to make a bit of extra money on the side, one of the methods which could in fact pay off more than expected is trading collectible toys. Collectibles are one of the biggest internet crazes pulling in hundreds to thousands in profits from Craigslist to eBay and all internet auctions and listing sites in between. This article will help you learn how you too can profit from buying and selling collectible toys online and offline.

Tip # 1 Know Where to Look

Collectibles are everywhere from your attic to your local thrift store. The key to making money with collectibles is to purchase the items in good to mint condition for well below the actual value and trade it to collectors for the actual value of the item therefore making a profit off of the difference. There are many books and online sources which will list and give you tips to identifying a collectible item along with the current overall worth. Once you have established exactly what makes a collectible and what to look for you have a general idea of what may already be laying around your attic or local thrift store for pennies to the dollar while actually being worth a goldmine.

Tip # 2 Identifying a Replica from an Original

Unfortunately one common problem in the industry of trading collectibles is the manufacturing of replicas. Replicas are traditionally new series of an original collectible item long after it has been discontinued therefore making the original a collectible due to the fact it can no longer be purchased from the company. Original collectibles will have some form of identification which differs the original from the replica such as labels, dates, material, colors, and more. The best way to learn the difference between an original collectible and a replica or copy is to speak or research the actual product itself and the manufactured difference.

Tip # 3 Collectible Values Are Ever Changing

When selling and purchasing collectibles you have to remember that the actual market and value of the items fluctuate depending on the "craze" or "demand" by the public to purchase the item. The more popular the collectible is or harder it is to find the higher the value will become. For example if a collectible is worth 50$ just after being discontinued it may be worth 150$ 2 years later. So sometimes an item which isn't a collectible may suddenly become a collectible out of the blue thus the importance of collectors buying and trading to always keep themselves up to date on the collectible toy market.

Tip # 4 Release Generations

Some collectible toys such as TY beanie babies are released and discontinued in seasons. We call these seasons the generations. For example the first generations will be older then the sixth generation therefore the first may be more valuable due to the more scarce odds of coming across those toys. Traditionally generations are identified in the same way you would identify the difference between a replica and a genuine collectible. Each generation will have some sort of mark or label which differs it from the next generation.
