High heels have often been popular with women throughout the world, elongating the legs and making the wearer appear taller. They have sold in vast numbers throughout the world regardless of culture and country. Pumps are often worn in situations where a high heel would be uncomfortable or impractical for the wearer, such as when driving or walking around a shopping centre.
